Union Organizing Training
Wednesday July 17, 2019
10:00am – 6:00pm
Location: TBD
We hope you are having a great summer. We have already spoken to many of you about the Union Training sessions we have planned for Wednesday July 17th (10:00am-6:00pm), and possibly Thursday July 18th if there is enough interest.
You–the members–run the Union. Your participation in this training is essential for the strength of our Union. Alex Wiesendanger, International Lead Organizer for the AFM will be leading the day and has included a description of the training sessions below.
Union Organizing Training
Learn the basics of organizing co-workers to fight and win a better contract or recognition in an un-organized workplace.
Campaigns and contracts are won when musicians lead the fights ourselves. But building solidarity requires skills and planning.
This training will give the Officers of Local 77 and the committee members and leaders throughout the local the tools we all need to win better contracts and organize new work for ourselves!
A one day training will involve:
· The basics of Union power
· The stages of a campaign
· In depth training on the one-on-one organizing conversation
· Action planning for your Local campaign
A two-day training would include all of the above as well as:
· How to run a full organizing conversation
· How to map your workplace
· Charting and assessing the workforce
· How to identify key issues and run workplace actions
The Officers and Executive Board had Union Leadership training with Alex on June 4th and 5th. We are exited and motivated to continue this education along with you.
Please confirm your availability for one or both days by the end of the day on Monday, July 1st (CLICK HERE). Once we have compiled responses we will confirm the location of the training. If you are out of town but would like to participate we are looking into Go To Meeting or Google Hangout as options.
We look forward to working with all of you to strengthen and grow our Local.
